Course details

This course will introduce the technician to principles of air conditioning systems. Topics include: refrigeration theory, system construction and operation, inspection and service, refrigerant recovery, recycling and charging. Shop exercises provide an opportunity to perform air conditioning performance testing and inspections including refrigerant identification, leak detection, evacuation and refilling of systems. This is an ideal course for automotive technicians wishing to brush up on their air conditioning service skills and body shop technicians who are new to air conditioning service.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the theory of operation of automotive air conditioning systems.
  • Describe safety precautions and specific service techniques.
  • Identify various automotive air conditioning systems.
  • Service air conditioning systems, including recovery, recycling and refilling of refrigerant.
