Course Overview
This course equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful internship and career start. It covers workplace culture, professional etiquette, and various employment arrangements, including freelancing and full-time roles. Students will learn to prepare and present professional documents, understand basic legal responsibilities, and develop strategies for effective internships. Emphasis is placed on ethical standards, communication strategies, and establishing mentorship relationships to support career growth.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the importance of navigating workplace culture and business etiquette across diverse professional settings.
- Describe the differences between various employment arrangements, such as freelancing, commissions, pro-bono, full-time and part-time positions, and recognize their implications.
- Prepare professional documents, including proposals and reports, to effectively communicate and present ideas to clients or stakeholders.
- Explain basic legal responsibilities of employers and employees in the workplace, including relevant workplace laws and regulations.
- Develop a strong understanding of the expectations and requirements of internships in their field of study, including the skills, knowledge, and attitude needed to succeed.
- Create a strategic plan outlining personal goals and actionable strategies for maximizing the internship experience and achieving career objectives.
- Demonstrate an understanding of ethical and professional standards relevant to their field and how these standards impact their work and professional interactions.
- Explain the importance of seeking and establishing mentorship relationships to support professional growth and career development.
- Develop effective communication strategies for interacting with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders in various professional contexts.
