Course Overview
What is it like to operate Heavy Equipment? This course will provide you an opportunity to explore the occupation of a Heavy Equipment Operator. You will be provided an introduction to the terminology, safety practices and operational procedures used by heavy equipment operators. You will also be exposed to the operation of different types of equipment on state-of-the-art heavy equipment simulators in a safe classroom environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe factors affecting health and safety in the work place
- Assess typical worksite hazards
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Identify relevant jurisdictional authorities, and describe their roles (including BC1Call, WorkSafeBC, etc)
- Describe common types of heavy equipment and their respective capabilities, advantages and limitations
- Describe common attachments for heavy equipment and their purposes and capabilities
- Describe large equipment operation safety procedures
- Describe walkaround procedures
- Describe WorkSafeBC regulations and scaffold erection procedures
- Describe WorkSafeBC regulations for portable and fixed ladders
- Use heavy equipment operation simulators
