Course Overview
This course introduces students to the basic hand tools and processes used to manipulate wood (and plastics) for practical constructions. Students will learn how to select, set up and use appropriate tools for specific operations. Basic nomenclature and specifications will be outlined and applied to the school-based context.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas:
- Hand tool identification and nomenclature.
- Hand tool selection.
- Hand tool sharpening and set-up.
- Correct hand tool use.
- Basic hand tool techniques in stock lay out, squaring and sizing.
- Basic elements in wood joint selection, lay out, cutting and fitting.
- Basic finishing of small wooden articles.
- Use and modification of wood hand tools for plastic applications.
