Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Use Pollution Regulations as information to prevent pollution of the marine environment by oil, sewage, garbage, anti-fouling systems, and other marine pollutants.
• Use procedures required by MARPOL to prevent oil pollution.
• Use regulations to identify equipment required in a SOPEP Plan.
• Use regulations for garbage management plans.
• Use the regulations for prevention of pollution from ships and dangerous chemicals.
• Use Arctic Shipping Pollution Prevention Regulations as required in the Canadian regulations.
• Use the statutory requirements to report pollution incidents as contained in the “Pollutant Discharge Reporting Regulations, 1995.”
• Use knowledge of the shipping safety control zones order.
• Use regulations for the following IMO conventions:
• MARPOL 73/78 and its annexes
• STCW 1995 and SOLAS 1974
• Use regulations for the following IMO codes:
• ISM Code
• ISPS Code
• Use Canada Shipping Act sections 1 to 8.
• Use the Canadian regulations and vessel’s documentation relating to the following:
• Boat and Fire Drill and means of exit Regulations;
• Life-Saving Equipment Regulations;
• Fire Safety Regulations;
• Ballast Water Control and Management Regulations;
• Vessel Certificates Regulations;
• Marine Personnel Regulations.
• Use regulations for organization and crew training for shipboard emergencies and related drills.
• Use regulations for organization and training of the crew for routine operations and maintenance.
• Use the Canada Labour Code and Marine Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
