Course Overview
This course will provide foundation knowledge that will be used in subsequent Geomatics courses at BCIT. Coordinate Geometry (COGO) software will be used to solve typical survey calculation problems such as intersections, traverse and coordinate calculations. Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) tools in Microsoft Excel will be used to solve survey geometry problems and compute horizontal and vertical curve layout data. GPS data will be converted from Latitude and Longitude format to Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates using VBA tools. An introduction to Matlab will be given to enable students to solve common survey problems. Conditional tests and loop calculations will be used to solve specific survey calculation problems.
