Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate consistent professional behaviour in accordance with Sonography Canada’s Professional Practice Guidelines.
• Apply the Canadian Interprofessional Health competencies to deliver safe, collaborative, relationship-focused care and services.
• Consistently apply safe and ethical sonographic practices to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, their care partners, oneself, healthcare professionals, and the clinical environment, in accordance with Sonography Canada’s National Competency Profile (NCP).
• Demonstrate effective and respectful verbal and non-verbal communication with patients, their care partners, sonographers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Collect and document accurate and relevant patient history based on clinical indications, and integrate this information with laboratory results, diagnostic imaging findings, and exam indications to inform and guide sonographic assessment.
• Perform comprehensive and accurate sonographic assessments of anatomical structures outlined in the Sonography Canada NCP Appendices, and document findings clearly and precisely in accordance with clinical and departmental standards.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent or critical sonographic findings, ensuring actions align with current best practices and site-specific protocols.
• Formulate accurate technical impressions based on sonographic findings and/or exam limitations, and effectively communicate relevant information to the interpreting physician to support timely clinical decision-making.
• Demonstrate self-awareness by critically evaluating clinical performance, identifying areas of strength and areas for improvement, and developing targeted goals to support ongoing development.​
