Course Overview
This course focuses on emerging trends and technologies. Discussion will focus on technologies that are in current use that may become more mainstream along with the implications of change. Considerations of importance will include environmental impact, productivity, security issues with new technologies, and their effects on the oil and gas market. Students will make use of both scholarly and media reports to inform themselves on the issues.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Discuss new emerging trends and technologies in the industry.
- Define coal bed methane and discuss its significance.
- Discuss the use of nuclear energy and explain why it is being considered.
- Explain the fundamentals of N-Solv.
- Discuss the CO2 Capture Program (CCP) and its significance.
- Summarize nanotechnology and how it may apply to upgrading.
- Discuss the possibilities that exist for the use of Geothermal technology.
- Summarize security risks in the oil patch and explain what an operator can do to minimize these risks.
