Course Overview
Describes and analyses complex hydraulic and pneumatic components and their applications. Discusses hydrostatic transmissions, advanced hydraulic controls, and methods of improving system efficiency. Introduces the use of electronic controls in hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss safety and environmental concerns in hydraulics and pneumatics. [6, 9]
- Describe operating principles of variable displacement hydraulic pumps. [1, 3]
- Discuss contamination and specify appropriate filtration in hydraulic circuits. [1, 3, 9]
- Describe and calculate the various operation characteristics of hydraulic motors. [1, 3, 5]
- Discuss directional and speed control of circuits with hydraulic motors. [1, 2, 5,]
- Describe hydrostatic transmission and its applications. [1, 4, 5,]
- Describe operation of electronically controlled proportional valves. [1, 4, 5]
- Describe hydraulic accumulators and discuss their typical applications. [1, 5, 9]
- Describe operation of servo valves and discuss their typical applications. [1, 4, 5]
- Develop and analyse pressure, flow, and directional control hydraulic circuits. [1, 3, 9]
- Calculate size of hydraulic accumulators. [2, 3, 5]
- Develop and test electrical ladder diagram circuits to control fluid power systems. [2, 4, 6]
