Course Overview
This course emphasizes intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial management with an emphasis on decision-making in small to medium sized firms. As such the major project will be the development of a business plan focusing on strategic concepts, leadership applications and operational controls. The business plan will be developed in conjunction with the change required by Canadian firms to be successful in the global economy.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Critically analyze situations and business proposals.
- Develop a business plan aimed at raising external equity financing.
- Develop leadership and team building skills.
- Present a proposed venture-based business based on a series of realistic scenarios.
- Inform students of the potential problems of starting and running a business in such areas as market identification, competitor assessment, developing a management team, staging the capital required to fund the business and dealing with the various environmental areas that impact new ventures.
- Understand the importance of various forms of business ownership.
- Apply marketing and financial theory to develop and/or analyze appropriate methods to analyze business strengths and weaknesses, and to form alternatives to solve business problems effectively.
- Apply their understanding of contemporary theories and practices, the acquisition and use of skills that relate to management to improve their own effectiveness as members and leaders in organizations.
