Enabling Quality Driven Care DIGH 7400

In this course, the learner applies previously acquired knowledge from the foundation courses. This course will require the learner to leverage key concepts associated with information-system design with a focus on clinical-decision supports, evidence-based practices and technology-enabled workflow design. Learners examine clinical-decision support strategies to enable quality-driven care and explore the impact of the ethical, legal, regulatory, and financial components of the Canadian health-care system on clinical care and decision-making. Learners examine how to analyze, design, and implement digital health systems using knowledge of clinical-care processes, technologies, and workflow. Learners review the need for interoperability both inside a health-care organization (between departments and system components), as well as outside the organization (between health systems, practices, health information exchanges, and public health agencies). Learners analyze how informatics concepts and tools contribute to current and evolving health-care delivery models and influence access, safety and quality of care. Learners explore how to anticipate and evaluate the impact of digital health systems on clinical processes, health services delivery, and quality across the continuum of care. Theories and models of collaborative change leadership introduced in earlier courses will be built upon to include strategies, methods, and techniques, including consensus building and collaboration, negotiation, and conflict management, useful for health informatics projects. In a group assignment, learners apply principles, models, and methods for building and managing effective interdisciplinary teams, as well as methods to engage stakeholders, including end-users and subject matter experts. Learners will implement project-management principles, tools, and techniques. Learners learn how to work professionally, ethically, and collaboratively with stakeholders and as a member of an interdisciplinary health-care team to enhance the collection, distribution, use, security, and awareness of quality health information and its impact on care. The course examines risks associated with data sharing and strategies to prevent compromising patient and population privacy, confidentiality, and security. This course discusses policy, appropriate use, and the ethical implication of remote care, as well as how challenges related to access to health care can lead to disparity. The course examines virtual care as a delivery model for health care. Emerging health technologies will be discussed and analyzed in the context of quality care.​
