Course Overview
This course equips students with skills to navigate diverse workplace environments, build relationships, and manage conflicts. It focuses on employment relationships and emphasizes a practitioner’s ability to influence, manage change, inspire individuals, and collaborate toward shared goals. Key concepts include work context, conflict inevitability, and negotiation as the primary interpersonal decision-making process. Students will explore frameworks for understanding employment dynamics, learn negotiation techniques, and develop strategies for collaboration, conflict resolution and reconciliation.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Articulate the nature of work and the types and sources of workplace conflict to support an understanding of workplace dynamics.
- Identify diverse perspectives and relationships in multi-dimensional environments, emphasizing strong relationship-building skills.
- Analyze the influence of employment relationships on conflict, reinforcing the critical role of relationships in human resource management and leadership.
- Apply negotiation concepts and constructs to workplace challenges, including interests, positions, and integrative versus distributive approaches, while recognizing the roles of interests, rights, and power in conflict management.
- Identify acceptable solutions for workplace conflicts using appropriate negotiation and conflict-resolution/reconciliation techniques.
- Apply situational judgment to respond constructively to complex workplace scenarios.
- Utilize effective communication strategies—such as listening, framing, and managing emotions.
- Demonstrate effective team skills through employment relationship complexities.
