Course Overview
This course introduces various drawing methods, graphic language (conventions, standards, and symbols), and equipment and media used in the building industry to convey information. Students study two-dimensional drawing systems and practice drawing techniques. Emphasis is placed on the production of design development drawings. In addition, students are introduced to project delivery and construction drawings. The course is structured as a 3-hour lab session which meets once a week. Most lab sessions involve lecturing and instructional time. The remaining lab time is available for students to work on assignments and to receive feedback.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Prepare convincing and professional-looking drawings using the graphic language, conventions, and standards of the building industry.
- Read and interpret the design ideas and technical information that are described in architectural drawings.
- Produce drawings using a variety of media.
- Use drawings as a creative problem-solving tool when developing plans, sections, and elevations.
- Document existing building conditions by measuring interior spaces and exterior surfaces and generating a floor plan and section drawing.
- Produce a simplified version of a design development package for a small residential project, which includes a site plan, floor plans, sections, elevations, and a detail.
- Identify the content of architectural drawings in a construction drawing set.
