Digital Health Fundamentals DIGH 7000

This course introduces the learner to the foundational concepts associated with the digital health-care environment, including policy and practice, information management, health and clinical informatics roles, and digital technologies that sustain health and care services across the continuum. Through a review of core literature, research, and the international context, students learn key concepts, models, and theories related to digital health, health informatics, clinical informatics, and health information management. This course incorporates concepts of information and data literacy and the use of data standards and controlled vocabularies and terminologies to facilitate health-system interoperability and data exchange. The course discusses ethical dilemmas and security risks related to electronic documentation and data sharing and introduces key regulatory, policy, and economics frameworks in health-care delivery and financing. The course explores the forces shaping health-care delivery and considerations regarding health-care access, including equity and disparities in health-care delivery, financing, access and policy and examines the impact of digital health on equity and inclusivity. Students learn about aspects of social determinants of health and how these may be amplified in a digital context. This course introduces learners to the principles of collaborative change leadership and the foundational principles of project management. Learners apply systems thinking to bridge the clinical and information technology contexts. The course identifies different roles, including clinical health informatics specialist, analyst, and leadership roles, and explores strategies for navigating the transition from point-of-care clinician to an informatics role.​
