Course details
The information in this course is specific to what a Road Area Manager needs to know and what they are generally involved in from an operational perspective regarding subdivision proposal and development. The course introduces planning concepts for subdivisions in rural settings, land use changes, and zoning. The course introduces subdivisions and the subdivision application process, the process of issuing permits for items impacting ministry right-of-way, a basic overview of the ministry's roles and responsibilities, how the Development Services staff gather input from a multitude of agencies and ministry experts including the Road and Bridge Area Mangers. The role of the Area Managers in that consultation process and in the later construction phase is also introduced.
Prerequisite(s)
AMRC 1011, AMRC 1012, and AMRC 1013 are suggested prerequisites for students completing the Area Manager Roads Certificate program. Other Ministry personnel taking this course do not need to follow this course sequencing.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the role of the Area Manager in the ministry's Development Services.
- Describe the fundamentals and ministry roles that apply to the rural subdivision application process.
- Define the ministry's role in land use/zoning changes and the related approval process.
- Describe the types of permits required by the ministry and the related application process.
- Relate the Development Services principals to the engineering/infrastructure considerations that apply to land development and permitting.
- Describe the fundamentals of traffic management and traffic control on roads under ministry jurisdiction.
