Course Overview
This course familiarizes the student with basic operations of file organization and management in a Microsoft Windows environment. Topics covered include BCIT network file structure, basic word processing and spreadsheet functions. Focus is on using Microsoft Excel to enter survey-related data, perform basic calculations, generate graphs and evaluate criteria and results using supplied datasets. Students will gain the background required to efficiently operate a PC and perform typical computations and solve routine survey problems.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective use of the MS Windows environment
- Create, modify, edit and delete files and folders using MS Windows Explorer
- Operate the BCIT network file systems to create, modify, save, rename and submit materials and assignments
- Effectively create and edit documents in Microsoft Word and prepare a professional letter
- Demonstrate effective use of the data analysis and graphic tools in MS Excel
- Enter survey data and solve survey-related problems using MS Excel
- Produce and interpret graphs based on the computed results
- Manipulate spatial data within MS Excel to solve geomatics-related problems (e.g. coordinate conversion).
