Course Overview
Introduces wage and salary administration techniques including job analysis, job evaluation, compensation surveys, pay plan design and pay-for-performance systems. Contemporary issues such as pay compression, pay equity and confidentiality are addressed.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- Understand the strategic influence of the organization’s external and internal environments upon pay plan design.
- Recognize the various economic, worker behaviour, labour market, labour union and legal constraints and their implications for compensation system design.
- Identify the strategic and process issues in compensation system design.
- Describe the most prevalent compensation plans in use, including their strengths and weaknesses.
- Conduct job analysis, make use of common job evaluation methods and develop a pay structure.
- Apply conventional methods for budgeting salaries and evaluating the effectiveness of compensation systems.
