Course Overview
This course will focus on developing writing and oral communication skills that relate to broadcasting industries. Students will learn how to communicate effectively as professionals, or as members of a team, in a broadcasting workplace. Included within this will be skills development in writing (and reading) and speaking (and listening). The course will also provide practice in grammar and mechanics as needed.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Identify a message to communicate and adapt it to meet audience needs and expectations.
- Use appropriate tone when addressing audiences, e.g. positive, neutral.
- Identify and clarify the purpose in a variety of communication situations.
- Appropriately use a range of written forms of communication for industry situations, including emails, text messages, letters, memos, blogs, basic instructions, procedures, and short reports.
- Use direct and indirect patterns of organization to logically develop ideas.
- Design documents for easy reading using graphic highlighting, bullets, headings, summaries, etc.
- Use professional communication skills to interact with supervisors, peers, and team members.
- Respectfully critique examples of others’ work when writing alone and in a team.
- Express ideas clearly, concisely, and accurately.
- Use search techniques to find, evaluate, and summarize relevant reference materials, avoid plagiarism, summarize and cite sources.
- Use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling in all communications.
- Create a persuasive message and deliver an effective pitch for a production idea.
- Deliver an effective oral presentation.
