Course Overview
In this course you will build on the skills learned in COMM 1118. It will help you be an efficient and professional communicator at work on the web as a Digital Design and Development professional. You will learn how to conduct an effective job search, learn about employers, and prepare your job application packages to secure yourself a position as a technical expert in your industry. You will also write effective reports, deliver a persuasive oral presentation to your set, and participate effectively in meetings and group work. You will prepare a formal report and present it orally and in writing. In this course you will pay particular attention to best practices in writing via various communication channels to communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Adapt the three-step writing process for longer written messages, reports, and proposals.
- Write an effective resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile, building your personal brand.
- Participate in job and informational interviews.
- Respond to complaints and deliver negative messages effectively while maintaining professional relationships with business partners and clients, resolving conflict, and giving and receiving feedback.
- Write persuasive reports and marketing and sales messages more persuasively.
- Critically evaluate information to determine if it accurate, relevant, and complete and use critical thinking to develop strong arguments.
- Communicate about development and progress of team projects, i.e. articulate decisions on product and process to ensure that developers and stakeholders are headed in the same direction to accomplish the objectives of the project.
- Conduct meetings productively.
- Communicate design decisions to non-designer audiences to assure stakeholders your team can be trusted and have the expertise necessary to complete the job.
