Course Overview
This course introduces communication needs in the practice of radiation therapy and the health care environment. Students learn basic concepts and skills for communicating effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and patients. Class activities and assignments focus on analysing, planning and practising common oral and written workplace communication tasks. The course also provides the opportunity for students to apply research skills to a self-directed learning task, and to present their findings orally and in writing.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Select, organise and deliver information to meet the needs of patients, co-workers and the public.
- Analyse relationships, goals, and challenges in common workplace interactions.
- Compare and contrast workplace writing genres.
- Produce clear, concise written and oral messages with appropriate style and tone for healthcare workplaces.
- Critically appraise professional literature to assess its quality and relevance for a given research topic.
- Synthesize selected professional literature in a written report and an oral presentation.
- Create accessible documents and visual aids using page/slide design principles.
