Course Overview
Students will apply the knowledge, concepts, skills and techniques learned in all previous courses to generate a creative solution to a design project that supports human behaviour within the interior environment. This self-directed course develops one project from beginning to end. Students are required to provide solutions which support the requirements of the built environment to enhance the health, life safety, and welfare of the public. Through research, documentation, evaluation, and critical analysis, students will design functional and creative solutions which demonstrate the design process. They will also communicate their solutions through preliminary schematics and contract documents. The design solution will provide accessibility, functionality, sustainability, design aesthetics and code compliancy throughout. Individual research through various media, testing of concepts and analysis will provide the base for the concept and design. The project will require presentations of the concept and schematic design, followed by the development of contract documents and 3D digital models, using industry current software. Presentations will take place during the course and will involve on-line discussions.
