Course Overview
This course provides fundamental knowledge in fire growth and spread in buildings, smoke hazard and human behaviour in fires, structural response to elevated temperature as the platform leading to the interpretation and application of the new Objective-based Building Codes. The principles, types and basic techniques of Fire Modelling and Timed-exit Analysis will be covered. Students completing this course will be expected to develop and assess Alternative Solutions formulated through Performance-based Fire Safety Designs.

Learning Outcomes
Students completing this course will be expected to develop and assess Alternative Solutions formulated through Performance-based Fire Safety Designs bases on the BC Building Code in the following areas:
- Fire growth & spread in a buildings.
- Smoke hazard.
- Human behaviour in fire situations.
- Structural response to elevated temperature.
- Fire Modelling.
- Timed-exit Analysis.
This will be the bases for interpretation and application of the new Objective-based Building Codes
