Course Overview
This course will include the practices for implementing an effective environmental management system and sustainability best practices within the aviation sector in Canada. Topics included United Nations Sustainability principles, Canadian environmental legislation, aviation industry best practices in both airport and airline industries, the process of the Environmental Impact Study and Environmental Assessment. Evaluation includes worksheet completions, a presentation and examination.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the UN Sustainable Development Goals and principles and how these relate to aviation operations.
- Complete an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of development on the airport site, surrounding communities and the environment.
- Describe the framework for the Environmental Management System (EMS) within aviation operations.
- Describe the impact of Canadian environmental legislation on existing and/or planned activities within the aviation sector e.g. airline fleet type including use electric aircraft, aircraft operating procedures, airport operations and airport site development.
- Describe aviation related operations that may affect air, ground surface (soil) and water quality and ways to prevent, minimize and manage these, including waste management.
- Identify effects of noise around an airport and explain the need for managing aircraft/airport noise.
- Describe techniques for management of birds and wildlife at airports.
