Course Overview
This is the second course in a series of three courses that collectively support the completion of an applied capstone project. Across the three courses, students will learn fundamental project management concepts and skills, practice developing project management tools and documents, develop a project management plan for a project completed with an industry partner, execute the project, and evaluate and report on project outcomes. Throughout the series, students will also develop teamwork skills and the ability to engage in structured self reflection. In this course, learners apply the project management concepts, tools, and documents introduced in the first course to a real-world project. Working in teams, learners are matched with an industry partner and are responsible for developing a project management plan tailored to their assigned project. In the first half of the course, the focus is on project definition and planning. In the second half of the course, teams begin executing the project in accordance with the approved project management plan. The course also introduces foundational change management concepts to support effective project execution. Evaluation includes a project plan, project status report, reflection paper, and 360-degree feedback.
