Course Overview
This course builds on the concepts of operations strategy and policy learned in the Introduction to Operations Management course in level one. In addition, the students will learn, discuss, and use industry technologies that support the implementation of a company’s operations strategy. Specifically, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system will be used to demonstrate how these technologies can be deployed in industry. Also, Business Information Technology students will learn what role they can play in selecting an supporting these technologies in industry.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe a manufacturing/service production system in terms in inputs, processes outputs, information flows, suppliers, customers and external environment.
- Explain how Operations Management is fundamental to both manufacturers and service providers.
- Describe the role of operations strategy in gaining competitive strength in a global marketplace.
- Determine the necessary elements of an operations planning system.
- Explain the logic of material requirements planning and how to schedule the receipt of materials to meet promised delivery dates.
- Describe the role of information technology in supporting operations planning systems.
- Describe the process to select and implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
- Build a manufacturing planning system model in a mid-market ERP system.
- Describe the impact of emerging technologies in the use of ERP systems.
