Course Overview
This course builds on material from SRMT 3700 (Applied Forest Measurements): reinforcing and applying the essential measurement skills and principles for the evaluation of logging waste. The course advances student skills as they practice and apply measurement and assessment procedures of the Provincial Logging Waste Surveying system. The course prepares students to work with or as a qualified Logging Waste Surveyor. The course reinforces the sampling and measurement principles and skills required of the technologist to practice in the professionally regulated revenue risk B.C appraisal system.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the purpose and rationale for the provincial Logging Waste system.
- Identify the species of common coastal logging waste based on shape , size, texture, and other external characteristics.
- Demonstrate radius and length deduction procedures for piece volume reduction.
- Recognize the difference between kinds of waste and the differences for reporting.
- Identify, measure and record the various waste classes found in a harvested setting.
- Establish dispersed and acculumation sample plots correctly.
- Develop a Waste Survey plan.
- Conduct Waste and Residue sampling procedures on a harvested area.
- Describe the alternative survey methods within the Waste system.
