Course Overview
Students will access a dataset, analyze it using quantitative methods, select and format the data and explore to discover trends and correlations to answer specific business questions. This course will bridge the gap between the technical and business requirements of business analytics by building models for key business areas. Such models will be based on value added KPI’s reflecting stakeholder’s needs and the level of needs within the organizational hierarchy: executive, management, operational. Students will learn to ask the right questions to solve the real business issues.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Select and extract data from a database relevant to the business question at hand.
- Use applicable quantitative methods to prepare the raw data for analysis.
- Select key KPIs from the refined data relevant to answer a specific business question.
- Develop models using the knowledge gained from the refining of the data to analyze/predict specific business outcomes.
- Find business insights such as leading vs. lagging indicators.
- Define strategic, operational and tactile KPIs.
- Be able to drill down with integrity and detail across different data sources.
- Be able to define key business performance indicators through requesting and gathering information through interviewing of key stakeholders.
- Be able to ask the right questions to answer the right questions.
- Through modeling of the business issues, define the ROI of Analytics and the strategic initiatives derived from Analytics.
- Develop Data driven decision models for key business areas:Models for operations, Models for Finance,Models for Marketing,Models for Human Resources.
