Course Overview
This course has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to critically review and analyse the national and international issues surrounding the rising emission of greenhouse gases and carbon management. It will focus on carbon management strategies and systems, being designed and developed by Canadian businesses and governments as they strive to meet the growing need to develop and implement positive carbon footprints, including renewable energy, and increase their demand side efficiencies.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Describe the evolution and current state of the Carbon Cycle.
- Critically analyse and evaluate the drivers for carbon management , including historical voluntary governmental responses and present day non-voluntary compliance requirements.
- Identify what is required to achieve a robust and successful carbon management strategy
- Identify recent industry responses in carbon foot-printing, including recent renewable energy initiatives and demand side management.
- Explain the use of carbon impact assessments in decision making and the use of project accounting within international greenhouse gas emissions mitigation and reporting.
- Develop, implement and monitor an action plan to achieve a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, including identification of KPIs and the characteristics of successful change management.
- Describe and evaluate the concept of carbon offsetting and the role that offsetting plays within a robust carbon management strategy.
- Critically apply selection criteria for purchasing carbon offsets.
