Course details
Introduces the concepts of how accidents/incidents are caused and provides evidence to support the analysis and investigation of these causes. Analyzes a variety of sources, from historical perspectives to current behavioural theories, for their application to today's workplaces. Discusses accident investigation techniques and their legal implications. Students conduct a real or mock accident investigation as part of their course requirements.

This is an *** ONLINE *** Distance Education course. Internet access is required. To be successful, plan to spend 8-12 hours per week on your studies, starting Week 1. This is a classroom based offering of this course. It will run from 8:30 to 16:30 on alternating Saturdays for 6 sessions starting on September 9th. This course will only run if enough students are registered. If there are not enough registrations you will be offered a full refund or registration into the online OCHS 1200 course offering in the fall term. After successfully completing this course, you will have sufficient information to:
- Describe the management principles involved in a total loss prevention program.
- Conduct various accident/incident investigations to determine the root causes and recommend corrective measures.
- Describe several common causes of accidents.
- Develop several approaches to promote safety and behavioural change in the workplace.
- Conduct an effective interview of witnesses in an accident/incident investigation.
- Complete a comprehensive accident/incident report.
