Introduces the concepts of how accidents/incidents are caused and provides evidence to support the analysis and investigation of these causes. Analyzes a variety of sources, from historical perspectives to current behavioural theories, for their application to today's workplaces. Discusses accident investigation techniques and their legal implications. Students conduct a real or mock accident investigation as part of their course requirements.

RE-REGISTER in this section of OCHS 1200 if you were registered with either Tutor SHELLEY BALDRY or AMRIT PANGLI in the previous Winter Term (CRN 47147 or CRN 76308) ***** Re-Registration is ONLY for students, who in the previous term, did not complete all course requirements. This is a one-time option to extend for another 12-week term at a reduced tuition fee. Course work submitted in the Winter Term will be retained; you are ONLY required to submit outstanding course work. Tutor support available by e-mail (or by phone, if pre-arranged). Upon Re-Registration, expect to receive a confirmation e-mail entitled “OCHS 1200 - Spring Term - Course Information from BCIT”. NO print course materials are required from the BCIT Bookstore. The Student Handbook + Request To Write Exam forms will be available prior to the Spring Term at: www.bcit.ca/distance/learnersupport/resources.shtml. Your initial course from the Winter Term will remain open for VIEWING for several years. HOWEVER, access to your Re-Registration course in the Spring Term will be available on the first day of term. After successfully completing this course, you will have sufficient information to:
- Describe the management principles involved in a total loss prevention program.
- Conduct various accident/incident investigations to determine the root causes and recommend corrective measures.
- Describe several common causes of accidents.
- Develop several approaches to promote safety and behavioural change in the workplace.
- Conduct an effective interview of witnesses in an accident/incident investigation.
- Complete a comprehensive accident/incident report.
