Course Overview
This course explains how organizations should design and implement compensation and benefits strategies that align with business objectives, the competitive landscape, and talent management goals. Students will explore the various components of total rewards, including compensation structures, benefits programs, types of equity programs, and retirement plans. Students will develop skills to build a benefits strategy, including negotiating with benefits vendors and best practices in communicating these programs to employees. The course covers the role of internal equity, external competitiveness, legal compliance and DEI programs in crafting effective total compensation programs.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze the connection between total rewards strategies and broader business and talent management objectives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop negotiation skills for working with benefits vendors, including understanding broker commissions, benefits costs, and local versus global practices.
- Explain how to conduct a market analysis by interpreting market data.
- Identify the common elements of an employee benefits plan, including the legal requirements.
- Explain the key principles and practices in executive compensation.
- Create job-level frameworks and pay structures by applying compensation terms and formulas.
- Create a total compensation plan for a mid-size organization.
- Communicate and educate employees effectively about total rewards programs, ensuring they understand the benefits, processes, and policies associated with their compensation and benefits packages.
- Create inclusive and equitable total rewards practices, linking them to DEI initiatives, pay equity, and pay transparency practices.
