Course Overview
In this course, students will learn how to polish and re-write scripts that are being prepared for production in BCST 4120 Television and Video Production 4. Through the process of “polishing” students will learn how to prepare “shooting scripts.” Students will also study storytelling concepts used in unscripted production.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Conduct scene workshops in order to identify plot, character, as well as thematic and structural issues within a screenplay.
- Consider various rewrite strategies, and apply these strategies within a comprehensive rewrite plan.
- Describe the components and requirements of a shooting script.
- Analyze logistical and practical requirements (casting, locations, schedule and budget constraints, etc.) that are required to finalize a shooting script.
- Convert a screenplay into a shooting script.
- Describe the key characteristics of various formats such as unscripted, lifestyle, and reality television programs identifying key features of the narrative (competition-based, coming-of-age, instructional, ethnographic, etc.).
- Identify the footage elements necessary to create and nuance the narrative within a produced lifestyle/reality television program.
- Write host dialogue and voice-over for a variety of television programs.
- Track the ongoing cast interactions and dynamics and identify and convey a compelling narrative in an unscripted production.
