Course Overview
Protection of electrical systems is a balance in reliability, security, sensitivity, and speed. This course is intended for professionals working in the electrical industry who wish to develop fundamental skills and knowledge in electrical protection. The course is based on hands-on learning, using software to demonstrate the fundamentals of electrical protection. Topics include why we need protection, terms and designations used in protection systems, ac signal sources, key drawings used in protection. Labs will be based on using PSCAD and ETAP software. Instruction on using the software will be provided during the lab periods. This course addresses concepts in the design of power system protection equipment.
