Course Overview
SURV 3351 Digital Mapping outlines the processes and techniques used in the modern mapping industry. SURV 3351 Digital Mapping is a hands on lab based course where the students work with modern mapping equipment on practical mapping projects. Subjects include: scales, geometry of the stereo model, parallax measurement, mapping industry workflow, introduction to the softcopy workstation, measuring heights and identifying objects using the softcopy workstation, collecting simple planimetry, collecting a digital elevation model, orientations using the softcopy workstation, layout of photo ID control, measuring photo ID control using Leica GPS, Terrestrial Photogrammetry, Forestry Mapping Project.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Develop the ability to view stereoscopic images on the Softcopy Workstation and make stereoscopic measurements.
- Operate the softcopy workstations.
- Collect a DEM (Digital Elevation Model) using the Softcopy Workstation.
- Interpolate contours from a DEM.
- Collect a small scale mapping project on the Softcopy Workstation.
- Collect a large scale mapping project on the Softcopy Workstation.
- Collect data from terrestrial photographs.
