This course will introduce you to the basic principles of human resource (HR) management as they apply to the nonprofit sector. You will have the opportunity to explore the role of an executive director in relation to human resource management through case studies and discussions.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Explain the roles of the executive director and the governing body (such as a Board of Directors) in relation to creating human resource-related policies and procedures.
- Define the elements of an effective HR program for a nonprofit organization.
- Explain the critical stages of the life cycle of a person working (paid and unpaid) in a nonprofit organization and the role of the executive director in each stage.
- Develop a recruitment policy and procedures that incorporate relevant human rights legislation.
- Explain the documentation requirements related to HR management.
