Course Overview
The course begins with a basic introduction to statistical process control, which it shares with WOOD3410. The unique sections of this course cover the practical implementation of comprehensive quality control system in a sawmill environment. Existing systems and future applications such as ISO 9000 are also discussed. Production planning and control round out the topics.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Construct confidence intervals for means using the central limit theorem.
- Calculate and construct standard x-bar and R control charts.
- Analyze control charts for non-random patterns.
- Distinguish between process control and process capability.
- Calculate value of wood fibre and use this information to evaluate options for more efficient use of fibre.
- Administer a comprehensive quality control program at a sawmill or planer operation using internal and external standards that apply to the production of lumber.
- Describe MSR lumber production and relevant Q.C. requirements.
- Manage a lumber size control system.
- Apply appropriate techniques to improve performance in a sawmill environment.
- Create and apply simple sawmill production control models.
