Course Overview
This workshop course takes place within the academic learning environment and will introduce students to the skills/knowledge and equipment to be used in the clinical practicum portion of the program. Students will receive introductory skills in the areas of electrocardiograms; ambulatory ECG hook-up, analysis, and exercise tolerance testing. Students will also develop basic skills in patient care techniques, communication, and professional practice. Throughout, students will be exposed to simulation technology (patient simulators and virtual patients) as it applies to Cardiology Technology.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the necessary professional practices involved in the interaction with patients, technologists, physicians, all other allied health professionals in the health care setting.
- Perform basic equipment operation calibration and troubleshooting techniques.
- Develop basic skills in the recording and analysis of electrocardiograms.
- Develop basic skills in AECG monitor hook-up and disconnect.
- Understand principles of basic AECG Monitor scanning techniques.
- Understand principles of the basic skills involved in of Exercise Tolerance Testing.
- Develop and understand basic patient care skills necessary in the clinical environment (hand washing technique, patient transfers, ID verification).
- Effectively communicate within the health care environment.
