Course Overview
This course provides practice in written and oral communication skills managers use on the job. The emphasis is on techniques for communicating with employees and clients, including e-mails, memos, letters, reports, meetings, and oral presentations. You will develop a business proposal and present it orally and will prepare an updated, professional career package.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Set communication objectives and identify the needs of employees, managers, clients.
- Use the BCIT library and its electronic resources to locate information about local companies.
- Give effective oral presentations for business using appropriate visual aids.
- Use persuasive techniques effectively in written and oral communication.
- Write effective e-mail, letters, memos, reports and proposals.
- Take part in a business meeting and summarize the results.
- Prepare a professional resume and letter of application.
- Edit your work to meet professional standards in the use of English in business writing.
- Critically evaluate information to determine if it is accurate, relevant, and complete, and to use critical thinking to develop strong arguments.
