Course Overview
For those interested in starting a career in Financial Services or in managing their own investments, this course will enhance one's investment knowledge and analytical skills. Furthermore, the curriculum will augment financial planning skills providing a deeper understanding of financial markets and products. The Canadian Securities Course (CSC) is the first step toward attaining accreditation to trade stocks, mutual funds, derivatives, bonds and other securities. The material includes marker economics, financial statement analysis, investment products and strategies. The course is offered through in-class instruction and will prepare participants to write both Volumes 1 and 2 of the CSC exam offered by the Canadian Securities Institute.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the structure of capital markets and their function within the Canadian economy.
- Analyze the role of the Bank of Canada and various regulatory agencies in the financial markets.
- Analyze financial statements.
- Discuss the business cycle, inflation, interest rates, fiscal policy and monetary policy in the context of Canadian capital markets.
- Understand the nature of marketable securities and the factors which influence their price.
- Discuss the various methods employed to evaluate the worth of a marketable security.
- Understand the operation of stock exchanges and various financial institutions as well as the regulatory framework within which these institutions operate.
- Discuss basic financial planning and tax issues with respect to a portfolio of investments.
- Understand the design and management of a portfolio.
- Understand the rules and regulations of the investment industry.
