Course Overview
This course covers advanced topics and also draws on subjects learned in the six prerequisite courses of the Associate Certificate in Financial Planning program. A combination of lectures, discussions and case studies provide for an interesting course for individuals interested in pursuing a career in financial planning and/or preparing to write the CFP exam. The Associate Certificate in Financial Planning is a Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC®) pre-approved Core Curriculum program and meets Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) program academic requirements. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Be able to use their knowledge of tax, retirement, estate planning, cash management, investment and risk management to develop and implement a comprehensive written plan that will achieve their own or a client's overall financial objectives.
- Have fulfilled the academic eligibility requirements to write the Financial Planners Standards Council's professional proficiency examination leading to the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.

- 1. The following dates will be HELD IN-CLASS at the Burnaby Campus and are MANDATORY. Mid-Term: Tuesday, October 21, 2025 (18:00 – 21:30), Midterm debrief: Tuesday, October 28, 2025 (18:00 – 21:30) and Final: Monday, December 9, 2025 (18:00 – 21:30). Class WILL NOT be held on Tuesday, September 30th (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation), and Tuesday, November 11th (Remembrance Day). This is not a self-paced course. You will be expected to be available and online on the posted days and times shown on your registration schedule. It is important you have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content. Attendance for the in-person exams/classes is MANDATORY. Course content, type and quality of assignments, and general standards for this online course are the same as classroom courses. To be successful in this online course, plan to spend 7-10 hours per week on your studies, or more of it’s a condensed course, starting Week 1.
