Course Overview
This course builds on the topics and techniques of FMGT 3510 Business Finance 1. Students will use tools such as DCF/NPV analysis and the weighted average cost of capital to develop a framework for capital budgeting that focuses on increasing shareholder value. Corporate risk management concepts and international financial planning issues will also be addressed. An overview of the theory and practice of capital structure decision making and shareholder distributions will be provided. Additional topics include leasing, public offerings, and financial options.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Explain how firms raise long‐term financial resources.
- Assess a firm's various sources of capital and calculate its cost of capital.
- Define and determine a firm’s optimal capital structure.
- Explain the main factors that may affect a firm’s capital structure choice.
- Determine and estimate the relevant cash flows in a capital budgeting analysis.
- Analyze the desirability of an investment in capital assets under conditions of uncertainty and risk.
- Assess whether a company should lease or buy capital assets.
- Assess the impact (if any) of a cash dividend, stock dividend, stock repurchase and stock split on a firm’s share price.
- Using real‐life examples, analyze a firm’s capital structure choice and distribution policy.
- Discuss the factors important to firms when operating internationally.
- Explain the main factors influencing exchange rates.
- Use derivatives (forward and futures contracts, swaps, options) to hedge financial risk (ex. currency risk, interest rate risk, and commodity price risk).
- Describe the basic mechanics of financial options and discuss the main factors affecting a call and a put option’s value.
- Describe how general option concepts can be applied to other aspects of financial management.
