Course Overview
This course emphasizes analytical techniques and concepts that results in broadly applicable solutions to business problems. The course introduces decision making under uncertainty from a computational perspective and provides an overview of the necessary tools for building autonomous and decision-support systems. Following an introduction to probabilistic models and decision theory, we will cover computational methods for solving decision problems with model uncertainty and imperfect state information. Students will develop data-driven predictive models when faced with uncertainty in business. Presents an advanced course in the application of statistical methods to business problems. Statistics provide techniques for interpreting data, permitting managers to use information to answer larger questions. We will be focusing on topics such as Regression, Time Series Analysis, and Forecasting. Extensive lab work using computer software will lead to theoretical solutions. Students will interpret and apply these solutions as a guide to practical management action.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop and apply data driven frameworks to modern business problems.
- Use time series forecasting methods to assist in making business decisions.
- Use linear regression to forecast or model business situations.
- Evaluate the validity of predictive models in business situations.
- Select the most appropriate method for forecasting or modelling in a given situation.
- Analyze, interpret, and apply the meaning of the coefficients and statistics generated by different mathematical models.
- Analyze business mathematical models using software.
- Use decision trees, EMV, and risk analysis approaches to inform the decision making process.
- Convert theoretical solutions into practical management terms.

- Enrollment is restricted to students accepted into the Flexible Learning (formerly Part-Time) BBA Degree Program. Registration approval is automatically given upon acceptance into the program. This is an online asynchronous course. Assignments/quizzes will be due at specific times during the week, but there is no weekly face-to-face with the instructor at a given time. The final exam will be held at the Burnaby campus on Saturday, December 13th.
