Course Overview
This course will introduce you to the range of thinking skills and reasoning abilities that are essential to crime and intelligence analysis. You will examine the nature of knowledge and develop your abilities to think reflectively, critically, and logically. This course also covers many approaches to the task of discovering truth. A variety of structured analysis models will be used in conjunction with critical thinking to explore the basis of analysis.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Critically assess how personal, organizational, political, cultural, and philosophical perspectives impact the creation of crime and intelligence knowledge.
- Evaluate the relevance, reliability, and validity of information used in crime and intelligence analysis.
- Apply structured analytical techniques when completing crime and intelligence analysis tasks.
- Apply various types of reasoning when developing crime and intelligence inferences.
- Apply critical-thinking skills to various types of crime and intelligence inferences.
- Analyze the decision-making process in tactical and strategic settings.

- This course will be offered ONLINE and classes will be taught LIVE every Wednesday for 13 weeks from 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm. Attendance is highly recommended for success (synchronous). There are no required textbooks. Course information will be found in the Learning Hub. Students who have been accepted into a Forensics program where this course is a part of the matrix may register without any further approvals. Students who are not currently accepted in a Forensics program or, if this course is NOT part of your program matrix, please contact the Program Assistants for departmental approval at BCIT_Forensics@bcit.ca.
