Welcome to your instructor guide to creating, customizing, and reviewing your student evaluations (also known as “Instructional Assessment Online” or IAO’s for students).
Why are Student Instructional Assessment Online (IAO’s) important
Goal: The purpose of reviewing your students’ feedback of your instructional quality is to develop your own teaching practice and thereby enhance your teaching and learning outcomes. For details, see the FSA Collective Agreement (article 13.2) / BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement 2022 – 2025 [PDF]
Uses: Reviewing your student evaluations is a valuable part of your self-initiated performance development (for more information on this, click here: Performance Development System (PDS). Collect your student evaluations for your own reference report or choose to share them during a Performance Review.
What you will receive: When you receive your IAO report after a term has ended, you’ll see statistical averages on a number of performance metrics representing your students’ opinions, but it’s the open-ended comments that give you the most meaningful insights. As one instructor put it, “I look at the stats, but I live for the comments.”
