Pre-health

Three nursing students work with a patient simulator

Co-developed with the Burnaby School District, the Pre-Health Program targeted Grade 12 students interested in a career in health sciences. Through coursework in biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and physics the program had an innovative delivery model which allowed students to follow a patient through symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, and at the same time, explore the related healthcare professions.

The program was enhanced through an applied, hands-on course at BCIT, taught by BCIT instructors, and focused on labs and lectures, problem-based learning projects, online resources, and mentorship by post-secondary students. The combination of theory delivered in a high school classroom at Moscrop Secondary and hands-on learning at BCIT made this initiative unique in Canada. Students receive a minimum of 12 high school credits and successful completion increased their competitiveness when applying for a BCIT School of Health Sciences program.

Due to COVID-19 this program was suspended. We are currently exploring new opportunities for Health-related partnerships. For further information about this program and other partnership opportunities please contact:
