SOIQS Online – Instructor Frequently Asked Questions

Your participation is key. Here is what to expect for each participating class:

• Ten days before the survey goes out, you receive a pre-notification email. We ask you to double-check the course information, and contact your Program Assistant for any changes.
• After the pre-notification, kindly inform your students to expect the survey email. Please mention that you will do the surveys in class, and ask students not to delete the email because each student receives a unique link.
• Eight days before course end, your students receive an email invitation to the online survey. You are notified at the same time.
• The email is timed to arrive a day before the second-last class. In either the last or second-last class in the course, please give students 15 – 20 minutes of class time to complete the survey. The surveys can be done on computers or mobile devices.Students who are not in attendance that day, or do not have access to a computer or mobile device during class can complete the survey on their own time.
• Students will receive a reminder email about the survey three days after the original invitation. They will be asked to ignore this email if they already completed the survey.
• The last opportunity for students to do the surveys is the last day of class. This feature is in place so that students are not influenced by the final exam when giving feedback.
• You will receive your instructor report by email two to three weeks after the last day of class, provided that marks have been submitted.

Yes. As of the Winter 2015 term (201510) is it possible to do the surveys on the last day of class.

Students receive email at the personal email address they provided to BCIT, while instructors receive email at their my.bcit.ca address.

The cutoff time is 9:30 pm. Any surveys submitted past this time will not be counted. This is so that student feedback is not influenced by student performance on the final exam.

Please ask students to do the following to find the email:

• Check the spam folder. If it is not in the student’s spam folder, it could be in another email account the student has provided BCIT.
• Check where the survey was sent. The emails are sent to student’ personal email. To check what personal email the student provided to BCIT, follow these steps:
  • Log in at my.bcit.ca using your BCIT email address and password.
    • If you do not know your password, click on “Forgot your password?”
  • On the right hand side, under Online Self Service, click on Student Self Service.
  • Under Student personal information, click on “update your personal information”.
  • Scroll down, and under Contact Information you will find a box called “Personal email address”.
    • This is the email address where the survey invitation was sent. If this address is incorrect, it can be edited here

They can still access the link from the reminder they will receive three days after the first email. Each student receives a unique link; therefore students should not share links.

Students can still complete the survey on their own time, before the last day of class.

The online surveys are anonymous, just like paper surveys.
