Course Overview
This course’s primary focus is the design, implementation, and evaluation of corporate strategies. It introduces you to a range of concepts, theories, and practical applications that will aid your understanding of strategic decision-making and its impact on organizations. These techniques will be applied on real-life organizations to ensure that teaching and learning are current. This course will also focus on the critical nature of strategic decision making, management, and leadership in the current and increasingly competitive Canadian business environment. It examines how to use strategic planning to cost-effectively develop competitive advantage in a dynamic environment. A variety of case studies will emphasize the value of structured models in developing practical solutions in a rapidly evolving and fast-paced Canadian business environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Design, implement, and evaluate a strategic plan.
- Critically analyze the complexity of business environments, including external and internal forces and impacts on the decision-making process.
- Critically appraise a variety of strategic initiatives and apply effective strategies to different types of organizations.
- Develop alternative responses to external business initiatives by assessing current developments within a variety of organizational environments.
- Recommend solutions, including strengths and weaknesses, to business problems.
- Analyze organizations to determine how to effectively integrate the desired strategic changes within a comprehensive and responsive management system.
- Critically evaluate the current strategic management tools, techniques, and concepts to determine if they are effective.
