Course Overview
This course supplements a person's practical qualifying experience by providing further training in 2nd Class power engineering subject matter. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will have sufficient knowledge to challenge the 2nd Class, Part B, Paper 1 certificate examinations administered under the provincial regulation authority (as described in the BC Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation: www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/17_104_2004). Topics include: Heat Engines and Prime Movers, Lubrication, Piping, and Mechanical Drawing. Graduates of BCIT's Second Class Certificate: this course, along with POWR 1219, POWR 1220, POWR 1221, POWR 1223 and POWR 1224, plus the requisite qualifying experience, should be able to apply the knowledge learned in this study program in improving their abilities to operate, maintain and/or manage various industrial facilities, plant processes and associated equipment within the scope of a Second Class Power Engineer's Certificate.

- NO ONLINE "ADD TO CART" OR PHONE REGISTRATIONS allowed for this course. This is a specialized course that requires application approval from the Power Engineering Department. Students must have 3rd Class certification to be approved. To request approval, email PowerEngineering@bcit.ca. Allow 2-3 days for a response. You will receive an email with the information on expectations, requirements and details required to continue with our registration approval process. Course final exam to be completed in-person at the BCIT Power Engineering department office or an approved invigilation centre. Final exam format is sketch and describe, paper-based. More details are provided in the information email.
