Course Overview
In this course you will learn about safe operation of vessels and obtain a Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC) approved by Transport Canada. This course also introduces you to the typical procedures for commissioning new boats and equipment, procedures for conducting sea trials, the common sources of technical data and the reasons for industrial standards. In addition, you will learn to read and comprehend the terminology, technical data, drawings, charts and graphs and write repair order descriptions related to the marine industry.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the typical procedures for commissioning new engines pre-start, initial starting and post-start
- Describe typical procedures for conducting sea trials following commissioning of new engines or repair work
- Inspect engine hook-ups
- Perform engine pre-start procedures and complete performance checks while vessel is under way
- Describe the basic elements of vessel types, hull forms, performance, stability and propulsion system configurations
- Describe the common sources of technical data related to the trade and their means of access
- Interpret terminology, technical data, drawings, charts and graphs related to the marine industry
- Demonstrate the use of browsers and search engines to access technical and manufacturers' information on the internet
- Explain the reasons for industrial standards, how they are applied in the workplace and indicate what organizations provide standards related to the trade
