Course Overview
Provides an overview of QA-QC procedures for mineral exploration projects ranging from grass-roots through to pre-feasibility. Topics will include: the planning, design and implementation of quality control procedures for exploration sampling, preparation and analysis; the common sources of error in sampling, preparation and analysis; and methods to prevent and/or mitigate these errors. The course will also provide an overview of statistical tests and parameters used in the testing and quantitative evaluation of analytical data. This course would be of benefit to geologist, laboratory managers, technologists, engineers, and others concerned with quality control of geochemical and assay data that must meet the requirements of National Policy 43-101.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Develop a quality control plan for mineral exploration projects ranging from grassroots through to pre-feasibility with respect to the sampling, preparation and analysis of geological materials.
- Describe the procedures necessary to implement a quality control plan for a mineral exploration project.
- Outline common sources of error in the sampling, preparation and analysis of geological material.
- Describe the methods that can be used to prevent and/or mitigate errors in the sampling, preparation and analysis of geological materials.
- Select and evaluate the use of duplicates, blanks and commercial standard reference materials in assaying and geochemical analysis.
- Use EXCEL templates for the efficient processing of quality control data and generate report-quality graphs for the presentation of results.
- Describe the principles of effective database design and successful methods of auditing databases.
- Outline common statistical tests and parameters used in the testing and quantitative evaluation of analytical data.
- Apply statistical tests in the evaluation of analytical data including duplicate and control samples.
- Describe procedures for monitoring exploration data quality.
