A survey course examining methods and equipment used in the manufacture of lumber in the BC Coast and Interior, including log preparation, primary log breakdown, and subsequent processing. Course will include several virtual field trips.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Describe equipment and processes used in the manufacture of lumber, including log preparation, large and small log breakdown techniques, secondary sawmill processes and tertiary sawmill processes.
- Calculate lumber recovery factor.
- Describe various lumber manufacturing techniques with appropriate vocabulary.
- Discuss lumber finishing techniques (drying and planning).
